A bellydance teacher in the Austin area. A hula halau would be good too, but right now, due to fighting, that's my second choice. Help? I've googled, but any personal experience would be wonderful. ATS or classic bellydance is fine. I want to redevelop my flexibility, gross and fine motor-control and body-comfort more than I want to hold to a particular art form or style. Thanks!
silk_noir @ 09:06 am: The New Gig + Words on Heat Therapy and Fibromyalgia
Okay, so I've put up my first substantial post over at the painreliever blog. I don't like the fact that it's entitled "Health Beat." Maybe I can get the powers that be to change the title? Earlier I was asking folks about cold therapy, and some of them responded with a preference for heat therapy. I've done a tiny bit of reading--only a tiny bit--and I've learned that folks with fibromyalgia use heat therapy as part of their pain management. Folks suffering from this condition, tell me if I am correct? Currently we don't have a fibromyalgia category, but I'm determined to make that change as soon as I can. Current Mood: working

zonereyrie, posting in tivolovers @ 12:58 am: Software 9.3.2 Out For Series2 And Series2DT TiVos
A new software update is out for Series2 & Series2DT TiVo units - 9.3.2. If you'd like to get it sooner, register your TSN(s) on the TiVo Software Priority Request page. The update is available for model numbers starting with 110, 130, 140, 230, 240, 264, 275, 540, 542, 565, 590, 595, or 649. According to that page: This service update reorganizes some of the TiVo Central menu choices, specifically adding a menu item for Video on Demand content from TiVo and it's partners. If your DVR is connected to broadband, you'll be able to enjoy the latest movies, television shows, and web videos directly from this menu. You'll also find a new way to start Swivel Search anytime you pause a program! Zatz Not Funny has several screencaps of the new interface. The Showcases item has been pushed off of TiVo Central, and is now a sub-item on the Music, Photos, & Showcases screen, renamed from Music, Photos, Products, & More. This has freed up a slot for a new Video on Demand menu item, which slots in just below the renamed Find Programs (no longer Find Programs & Downloads, thanks to the new item). And now when you pause a program you may see ' Press UP to show extras'. When you so, you are presented with the option to find out more about the program, which links to Swivel Search. I expect that the extras could expand in the future to include other items, such as Amazon shopping for items related to the program, maybe links to bonus content, etc. Like Dave, I'm sure we'll see these new features added to the Series3, TiVo HD, and TiVo HD XL as well. Likely in a 9.4.x release in the coming weeks. TiVo traditionally has a fall update, and it is about that time. Although, unlike Dave, I'm not that surprised to see the S2 boxes getting an update. While the future is clearly with the HD units, with their newer hardware capable of things the S2 simply cannot do, the units still have a great deal in common with a shared core architecture. So it should be easier for TiVo to continue supporting the S2 than it was with the S1, which had a different architecture. Not to mention the sheer numbers of Series2 units in the field, much larger than the total number of S1 units sold. I think TiVo will continue to provide at least basic updates for the S2 platform for a while just to keep those users active. Current Mood: busy Current Music: TiVo: The Colbert Report

yakko7178, posting in tivolovers @ 08:23 pm: Broadcast flag?
I recorded a basketball game on ESPN and a bit of ESPNNEWS last night on both my Tivo HD and Tivo Series 2. I tried copying the shows from my TivoHD and they don't show up in Galleon. On the web interface they show up as "protected." I also noticed that a movie I recorded from Starz HD is protected. The Series 2 broadcasts came over with no problems. What can I do to get the game saved off the HD tivo? Do I have to call Comcast (please say no)? Is there a way to get around this?
maddogairpirate @ 06:49 pm: Gay marriage versus a gay couple getting equal benefits.
I recently had a heated argument with a friend of a friend. It could only be called a discussion if one were to take out all the disdain, word-twisting, and not listening to the other party. I have a heavy hand in the disdain, though I'd think none in the word-twisting or not listening. But anyway. Gay marriage is not something I think we need. The benefits and priveleges that come with marriage, however, I've always felt should be extended to gay couples, on the basis of gender equality if not sexual equality. More under the cut. The post is long. ( Read more... )Current Mood: aggravated
silk_noir @ 06:02 pm: Tobias Buckell in the ER! Or, Please Don't Get Rid of the Facial Hair
Toby Buckell is in the ER. Damnit. I had just picked up a copy of the October Locus at B&N (yes, we are slow here in the middle), which of course, as you know, has a little piece on him. Then I get back to work and damn! I see he's in the ER. Toby, I and so many other wish you a speedy and complications-free recovery. zonereyrie, posting in tivolovers @ 06:33 pm: DVRupgrade Offers TiVo Fountain Of Youth
Long-time TiVo expansion and service vendor DVRupgrade is today launching new TiVo life-extension services. While DVRupgrade has long offered pre-upgraded TiVo units, as well as drop-in replacement drives and the tools needed it to do-it-yourself, they're now offering full TiVo repair services as well. While DVRupgrade is best known for their TiVo related offerings, they've also branched out into other areas. They sell VideoReDo, a popular video editing and DVR burning package often used with TiVoToGo recordings, and a number of accessories. They also offer VUDU, HDHomeRun, Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder II, and a number of other products such as Slingboxes, Logitech remotes, and more. I've used DVRupgrade's products myself. A few years ago I used InstantCake to image a drive to recover and expand an old Series2 before I sold it to a friend. A just a few months ago I picked up a 750GB replacement drive to replace the factory 80GB drive in my Pioneer DVR-810H when it finally gave up the ghost after four and half years of constant use. I've always been very happy with both their products and their service, and I recommend them highly. ( Press release: )Current Mood: hungry Current Music: TiVo: Iron Chef America

zonereyrie, posting in tivolovers @ 05:23 pm: TiVo To Layoff Workers
In the dry language of SEC filings, TiVo has announced plans to layoff workers - or 'reduce headcount' as the bloodless HR-speak would put it. ITEM 2.05. Costs Associated with Exit or Disposal Activities.
On November 18, 2008, we commenced a plan to reduce our operational expenses, primarily through a reduction in headcount, as we manage through the challenges presented by a difficult economic climate and a rapidly evolving retail consumer market.
We expect to incur pre-tax charges of approximately $1 million, primarily for employee-related severance benefits and out-placement costs. We expect to record these charges in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2009 ending January 31, 2009. Substantially all of these charges will result in cash expenditures. It isn't too surprising, given the current economic climate, layoffs are hitting throughout the tech industry. But it is still a rough experience, and having been through layoffs a couple of times myself I hope my friends at TiVo will be safe in their jobs. Best of luck to everyone at TiVo. I had to yippee about this before LJ closed for the day--a very nice review of "Angels of a Desert Heaven" from Kaolin at GUD. And Eric, he liked the whole LSS Reader, too. ;D "Angels of a Desert Heaven" by Marguerite Reed sets up the question of the place of gods and culture in a land with cultures both melted together and oddly segregated; it's a poignant tale that spreads itself across several, including those of rock music stardom and fortune telling.Current Mood: happy Current Music: Enya, "Book of Days"
